Chances are if you’ve ever used Windows, you’ve experienced the dreaded “Blue Screen of Death” (BSOD). The page, with its bright blue screen and white text pops up at the most unexpected times, often causing loss of unsaved work and a mandatory reboot.

The blue screen of death appears once Windows encounters a critical problem from which it cannot recover without stopping operations. While the BSOD doesn’t occur as much in newer operating systems, the blue screen of death can still occur when Windows senses a hardware or software error which prevents Windows from operating normally.

Retrace your steps

Think about what you were doing just before the BSOD appeared. If you just installed a new program or software, this could be the source of your problem. Try uninstalling the program and see if the issue is resolved.

If you’re lucky, the blue screen of death will disappear after a simple reboot. Even if this is the case, it is recommended that you scan your computer for viruses as a precaution.

It is possible that a virus could be behind the problem, running a scan for viruses will remove any possible threats to your computer.

Perform diagnostic tests

By performing diagnostic tests, you will be able to see if there is a deteriorating piece of hardware.
