Windows 10: The Features and benefits

September 25, 2018

It has been announced that Windows 10 will be released on the 29thof July, in 190 countries and 111 languages.

According to Microsoft, the new edition will deliver a more personal computing experience across a range of different devices; from PCs, tablets and phones to Xbox One, Microsoft HoloLens and Surface Hub.

Below is a list of the main features which are included in Windows 10.

Perhaps Windows’ answer to Siri, Cortana is the world’s first truly personal digital assistant. Through learning the user’s preferences, Cortana provides users with relevant recommendations, fast access to information and important reminders.

Through typing or talking, users can interact with Cortana on their PCs and smartphones.

Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge is a new browser which includes built-in commenting on the web and a reading view which is designed to make reading websites much faster and easier.

In conjunction with Cortana, Microsoft Edge offers content based on user‘s interests and preferences so that they can focus on the content which is relevant to them.

Office on Windows

In addition to the Office 2016 full featured desktop suite, Windows 10 users will be able to experience new universal Windows applications for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. These offer a consistent, touch-first experience across a range of devices which aim to increase user productivity. The new features will allow you to edit Word documents, deliver PowerPoint presentations and create excel spread sheets, all without a keyboard or mouse.

Windows 10 also offers new versions of OneNote and Outlook, which are both included with Windows 10 at no additional cost.

Windows Hello

Windows Hello enables users to log into their account without a password, providing users with instant and more secure access to their Windows 10 devices. Through scanning either your face, iris, or finger, Windows will instantly recognise you and greet you by name.

Windows 10 provides the most secure platform ever, including Windows Defender for free anti-malware protection.  Microsoft also state that they are committed to deliver free ongoing security updates for the supported lifetime of the device.

Start menu

Last but not least, Windows 10 brings back the Start menu which was removed in the heavily criticised Windows 8 edition. The new start menu is designed for both keyboard and mouse user, featuring the most used apps and live tiles which are customisable to your tastes.
